Some people still often ask why my father is still in agriculture or choose to be a farmer. Actually being a farmer according to my father does not have to have your own fields. Simply by having the skill cultivate the land and predict the season. Like my father for example, he has no land of his own, the two fields that are run by my father are a lease land that the owner is unable to manage because he far away from his land and the other one is old.
One of the pride of being a farmer according my father is because no one in this world can live without the result of agriculture, especially rice, corn and wheat which are the staples. Especially for people who make rice as daily food needs as in Indonesia.
In addition, Indonesia is an agrarian country where most of the population has a livelihood in agriculture, Indonesia is known as gemah ripah loh jinawi which is a famous expression that has abundant natural wealth. In the future if fewer Indonesian people are interested in agriculture then who else will maintain that expression.
Although sometimes the results of farming can also meet losses when harvest failure due to season or pests. But it is a challenge for farmer. There are times when you predict failure from the beginning, for example when planting nuts when there is a good chance that nuts can not produce good crops, then after the first harvest my father must immediately set the stratge. Either immediately replace the beans with other plants or plant other crops and make the decaying nuts as natural compost.
In the future my father hope there will be more and more young people who have interest in agriculture. No need to be a student in agricultural pawn to understand how to farm. Simply by taking attention how his parents (for those who have a farmer's parents). It would be better if agriculture graduate students can develop technology that makes agriculture more rapid and can contribute to the country's economy.
