The more rapid the development of technology and information, the business world developed according to the development of technology and information. In the business world there is also the term e-commerce that affects up to 56% of in-store purchases, while e-commerce itself represents almost 10% of U.S. retail sales and that figure is growing by nearly 15% annually. For the superpower of USA of course this trend also affects trends in other parts of the world.
Then, what is e-commerce? E-commerce (electronic commerce or EC) is the buying and selling of goods and services, or the transmitting of funds or data, over an electronic network, primarily the internet. These business transactions occur as business-to-business, business-to-consumer, consumer-to-consumer or consumer-to-business. The terms e-commerce and e-business are often used interchangeably. The term e-tail is also used in reference to transactional processes for online shopping.
When compared with the United States or China, Southeast Asia can still be said to be a newcomer in the world of e-commerce. Alibaba, for example, began to emerge when Jack Ma founded it in his apartment in 1999. Since then, much has happened in the world of global e-commerce, especially Southeast Asia. As if to have its own advantages by learning from the mistakes that occurred in e-commerce market earlier, Southeast Asia is now beginning to follow the e-commerce movement quickly.
As a new trend in the business world, e-commerce is like two blades, has a positive and negative impact. The positive impact of e-commerce is a new, more promising Revenue Stream that can not be found in traditional transaction systems, can increase market exposure, lower operating costs, expand global reach, improve customer loyality, improve supplier management, shorten production time, and improve value chain.
Furthermore, the negative impact of the existence of e-commerce is a possible risk such as the theft of confidential information is valuable with the increasingly widespread ciber crime. In addition, e-commerce can replace traditional transactions so that people who still do not understand the science of technology and information will lose in a global competition.
Finally, just like any good development in business, education, health and others, all have a negative and positive impact. The development of technology and information occurs because of humans, of course we can not be controlled with these developments. So upgrading the knowledge continuously will make us a current controller not carried by the current.
